Dear Friend,
While there are dozens of
Democratic groups and political action committees around the state, the House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC)
is the only organization in Texas dedicated solely to building and maintaining a Democratic majority in the State House. In 2002, House Democrats faced a daunting 88-62 Republican majority. By November 2008, the HDCC had sliced the Republican majority down to two seats. In six years and over three election cycles, House Democrats gained a dozen seats. With your help, we have changed the political landscape in Texas over the last decade. Now we're working to put us over the top. Over the last decade, for Texas Democrats, the Legislature is "where the action is" and the Texas House needs strong Democrats to continue our fight to improve public schools, lower property taxes for all Texas families, and bring integrity back to state government.
HDCC success stories include:
- Performing
race-changing opposition research which pushed Democratic Reps. Joe Farias of San Antonio and Joe Moody of El Paso to
victory;
-
Raising vitally important late financial contributions that allowed Reps. Joe Heflin and Valinda Bolton to overcome last minute Republican attacks in West Texas and Austin;
-
Recruiting and training top-notch campaign staff for Reps. Jim McReynolds of East Texas and Abel Herrero of Corpus Christi; and
-
Paying for thousands of pieces of get-out-the-vote direct mail in key House districts to drive turnout of targeted voters.
Entering 2010, Democrats need 3 seats to take back the House. Again, the HDCC is the
only organization in the state dedicated solely to winning back the Texas House. That narrow focus makes us an effective and efficient operation -- building and investing in order to win today and tomorrow. Together, we can build a better, stronger, more unified Democratic effort in Texas.

With your financial help we will elect more good Democrats to the Texas House.
Sincerely,
Jim Dunnam
House Democratic Leader
