    Election Day in HD 50!

Today, many in our community will have the opportunity to elect another strong leader to the Texas House. We can’t think of a better way to brighten up a cold, dreary day than by going to the polls and voting for House District 50 candidate, Celia Israel, a proven leader who will  fight for the needs of hardworking Texas families.

We ask that you help ensure Celia’s success not only by voting today, but also forwarding this email to your north Austin friends and family to remind them to join you at the polls! To find the open polling location nearest you, please see the list below.

Democrats are well positioned to make significant gains across the state in November, but we can only do so by protecting seats like this one. Help us get out the vote and elect Celia Israel to the Texas House of Representatives!

Help Sen. Wendy Davis Defeat SB 5!

The HDCC is so proud of our House Democrats, who fought and delayed this bill for 20 hours. Now, the hardest part falls to our friend Wendy Davis. And that’s why we are so optimistic this terrible bill that restricts access to women’s health care–especially for poor, rural Texas women–will fail. Wendy needs our help to get this done. Tell your personal story now to keep Wendy going for 13 hours! http://wendydavisforsenate.com/standwithwendy/

Speak Out on Bad Women’s Health Bills

Governor Perry has declared war on women.  Last week he vetoed the Texas Lilly Ledbetter Act because he thinks women should be paid less than men for doing the same work.  Now, he has added bad women’s health bills restricting safe access to abortion to the Special Legislative Session. This week is your only opportunity to speak out against these bills.

Come to the State Capitol this Thursday afternoon and evening, June 20th, when the House State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on these bad bills.  The hearing will begin at 1:00 p.m. or upon adjournment of the House in Room JHR 140.

Please prepare a three minute testimony on the subject, and speak from your heart. What you say can make a difference.  Be ready for a long night, as the hearing will go on as long as it takes.

You can also fight back against Rick Perry’s war on women by helping to elect Democrats who will stand up for equal pay and women’s health issues. Please consider donating $5, $10, or $25 to the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee to ensure that our key Democratic legislators return, and that we are able to gain seats in the House.  Your support now will build the foundation we need to ensure this war on women will go no further.

    Urgent Redistricting Action Alert

    100531-HDDC-EmailHeader
Governor Perry has called the Texas Legislature into Special Session to address redistricting. Perry and Attorney General Greg Abbott are determined to force through redistricting maps before the courts have had a final say on numerous pending claims regarding intentional discrimination and violations of the Voting Rights Act.

The House Select Committee on Redistricting will hold public hearings this Friday, May 31st, and Saturday, June 1st at 9:00 a.m. in the Capitol Extension Auditorium. Although notice is short on these hearings, we strongly encourage you to attend.  This is an urgent opportunity to organize and help block the rubber-stamping of State House and Congressional maps that do not adequately reflect the tremendous population growth in the Latino and African American populations in Texas.

We look forward to seeing you Friday and Saturday morning at these important Redistricting Hearings.

    Some exciting news…

With less than 90 days from Election Day, we know what we face at the polls.

Just looking at what Tea Party extremists have done so far in Texas makes me shudder. I have no doubt that another legislative session with a Tea Party super-majority in control will be devastating for middle-class families.

With your support, that won’t happen. Democrats have candidates across our state working hard, knocking on doors and raising money to turn Texas House seats blue.

We want you to know these candidates and why they will win in November. So, for the first time, the HDCC is launching Back to Blue – our program highlighting the Democratic candidates with the best opportunity to win seats in 2012.
Help us turn more seats blue!

Even more exciting – two of our major donors have generously pledged $75,000 in matching funds to kick-start this effort!

That means every dollar raised to help win our most competitive seats will be doubled!

To help these candidates and to maximize the matching funds, we need your help! Can you contribute $500, $250, $100, $50 or even $25 today to help us reach our matching goal?

Republicans are doubling-down on their extreme rhetoric that will keep Texans at the bottom of everything we need to be first in for our children to succeed.  You can double your effort today to help show them the door!

There’s not much time left and there’s far too much at stake. Support our candidates by supporting the HDCC. Their victory in November will be a giant first step in our fight to bring Texas back to blue.

    Bluely yours,

    Representative Jessica Farrar
    Co-Chair, Texas HDCC
