The House Democratic Campaign Committee (HDCC) is the only organization focused only on winning back the Texas House. We ensure that the most competitive races have the resources necessary to be successful. Over the last year, we have been working with our progressive allies towards the 2012 election – developing a hard-hitting message, recruiting candidates, and devising new strategies to communicate more effectively with voters.
The HDCC is working right now to build professional campaign operations, train campaign staff and provide winning research, messaging and communications tools to House Democrats. Our effort is supported by the contributions of individuals and other groups throughout state.

Current available positions include:
Campaign Managers
The HDCC is seeking resumes for qualified candidates interested in working as Campaign Managers on State House campaigns. These positions will be open throughout the state. This would be a campaign position running through Election Day 2012.
Responsibilities
Campaign Managers will be the point person for all major decisions made on the campaign. Duties include:
- Developing an fundraising plan including revenue and expense projections;
- Managing a $500,000+ campaign budget;
- Coordinating the work of political consultants, and hiring and managing staff;
- Managing the candidate’s schedule to maximize exposure to voters and donors;
- Drafting rapid response campaign communications in consultation with the campaign’s consulting team;
- Keeping accurate records for compliance purposes.
Required Skills
The Campaign Manager should expect a demanding work schedule and be available long hours, seven days a week through Election Day. Qualified candidates are highly organized, highly motivated and capable of working in a stressful work environment. Ideal candidates will:
- Have previous campaign experience, ideally in a variety of positions within a campaign;
- Be well-organized, professional, and punctual;
- Have to ability to delegate work to his or her team;
- Have strong writing and strong communications skills;
- Function well in collaborative and team-oriented work environments;
- Be able to function well in high-stress situations

Field Directors
The HDCC is seeking resumes for qualified candidates interested in working as a Field Directors on State House campaigns. These positions will be open throughout the state. This would be a campaign position running through Election Day 2012.
Responsibilities
The Field Director will be responsible for implementing a field program for a targeted state legislative race. Duties include:
- Implementing all aspects of field program;
- Performing direct voter contact;
- Recruiting, training and retaining volunteers;
- Working with candidate to meet deadlines and achieve field goals;
- Maintaining relationships with all partner organizations on the ground;
- Finding office locations and handling other infrastructural needs;
- Any other campaign related tasks, as needed.
Required Skills:
The Field Organizer should expect a demanding work schedule and be available long hours, seven days a week through Election Day. Qualified candidates are highly organized, highly motivated and capable of working in a stressful work environment. Additionally, candidates must have:
- One campaign cycle of field experience;
- Experience working or volunteering on a GOTV operation;
- Experience with VAN/VoteBuilder;
- Extensive experience with Excel;
- Be willing to relocate to a state with targeted legislative races.

Interns
The HDCC is seeking an outgoing, dedicated student to serve as one of two unpaid interns throughout the remainder of the election season and leading up to the 82nd Legislative Session. With potentially more seats in play than ever, there has never been a more exciting time to be part of this unique organization.
The HDCC recruits and trains high-quality candidates in challenge districts; builds professional, cutting-edge campaigns; deploys experienced staff; and makes direct investments at the right times in targeted races and “get out the vote” (GOTV) programs across the state.
The HDCC intern will see firsthand what is required to make a House campaign successful.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting staff with political research projects;
- Coordinating with campaign staff for Democratic candidates;
- Producing an end-of-week summary of ongoing HDCC projects and progress in certain races, as needed;
- Assisting staff and members with fundraising events, mailers and emails;
- Assisting with routine administrative tasks, e.g., answering phones, sending faxes, mail runs, data entry.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be an effective and personable communicator;
- Commit to staying on board through Election Day;
- Remain flexible and willing to accept new responsibilities as they develop;
- Maintain an energetic, positive attitude;
- Be effective working as part of a team;
- Have access to reliable transportation;
- Support the mission, vision and work of the HDCC and progressive politics;
- Possess a basic knowledge of the Texas House of Representatives
The HDCC board and staff have a total of nearly half a century of Texas campaign and legislative experience, so the selected candidate will have an incredible opportunity to absorb political knowledge from industry veterans.
The work environment will grow increasingly frenetic as Election Day approaches and hard work will be required, but the reward will be claiming a stake in making history with us on November 6th.
